Backsplashes
Backsplashes can be just that ... a splash of form and colour. Imagine sunsets, ocean scenes, forests, meadows, flocks of birds, pods of dolphins, 2-dimensional, bas-relief, realistic or abstract, sculpted and/or mosaiced. The possibilities are endless. Suddenly, a purely functional piece comes alive as it adorns your kitchen, bathroom, utility room ...

Bathroom Backsplash
Our client had found these ceramic coasters that had been etched by sandblasting. The pieces were further highlighted with discarded firebrick from a brewery that was cut to fit on site. This is an example of an original application of non-traditional objects.

Kitchen Backsplash
The inspiration for this kitchen came from the clients' love of
nature and the ocean. During the summer the sun sets directly through
the kitchen window.
The clouds are in gentle bas relief. Ungauged silver quartzite was
used for the mountains, hand cut and fitted on site. The mountains on
the left side of the backsplash are similar to the coastal mountains of
Vancouver Island, while those on the right side reflect the mainland
topography. The window surround fades into indigo with the first stars
of the evening showing. The sunset wraps into the bay window with gently
undulating tiles.

Laundry Room Backsplash
Even laundry rooms deserve beauty. Being part of a completed laundry room project, the blacksplash continues the dolphin theme, with springs tying in the bluish- white paint of the walls to the colored grout lines within the piece.

Shell Inserts in Kitchen Backsplash
Our client chose sculpted shell tile inserts reflecting her passion for the blues of the ocean. These were placed randomly throughout the backsplash, cut into the 8 x 12" blue field wall tile.
