Gibson AbbottWood Carver![]() Gibson retired from engineering in 1988. He worked as a tool and die maker and a machine tool maker, from a very early age, becoming a part of management at the tender age of 22. Newly retired, he was walking through a department store one day where he happened upon cast ceramic ducks for sale. He decided he wanted to carve them in wood. His carving career began at the Senior's Centre in Burlington, Ontario. From there he spent the next three years under the tutelage of a professional carving instructor, then onto the Burlington Arts Centre for more carving. Carving became a very relaxing hobby with a challenging aspect. After his wife passed away, he moved to Vancouver Island to be close to his new grand daughter. He is now a member of the Oceanside Wood Carvers and continues to carve his exquisite birds both in the detail of realism and the interpretive.
