Ceramics
I went into Commercial Art, and got my first job with an "equal opportunity" employer. Not only did I paint the signs - I also dug the holes and installed them! Always taking courses of any kind, I dabbled in oil painting, water colors, paper mache and even dough art. Then I found clay! Once that happened, everything else faded off. Capilano College offered Advanced Sculptural Clay and also Pottery, and I was hooked!
Since then, I have won numerous awards, including Professional Hand Modeling award for two years, and attained my Masters in Ceramics. I have taught "ceramics with a twist" for years, including teaching hand modeling to students in grades one to six at Hammond Bay School in Nanaimo. That was the best! Those kids were great!
I dream in full color and completed pieces. An idea will come to me, like the cowboys or masks, and the whole piece is "created, finished and fired" before I even touch the clay. After that, all that happens is to let the idea come out of the clay, and there it is!
I still do custom pieces, and I allow myself to dream every now and again. Who knows what is going to be waiting the next morning!
